Real Columbus Wedding: Riddhi and Brennon Cain Set Standards for an Unforgettable Wedding
The couple wed at the Ohio Statehouse, evoking powerful emotions through traditional Gujarati fare shared by family and friends coming together from all over the country in celebration of the couple.
Who: Riddhi and Brennon Cain
When: Aug. 20, 2022
The story: Riddhi and Brennon met at Ohio State in 2013, when they were set up for a blind date. It’s safe to say the blind date went well. Fast forward several years later: After spending most of quarantine together in their apartment with their dog, Foss, Riddhi and Brennon realized “we love our life together,” Riddhi says of their relationship. Riddhi “expected the proposal” she says, as Brennon asked her to run errands one morning—aka get out of the house so he could prepare to wow her with an unforgettable engagement.
When Brennon gave Riddhi the go-ahead to come back to their apartment, he started singing a song he wrote for the proposal, which resulted in “immediate tears and happiness on Riddhi’s end.” Flowers, chocolate and champagne were also scattered around the apartment, but initially forgotten as Brennon was immersed in singing for Riddhi.
The wedding: The two wed at the Ohio Statehouse. Their wedding theme was a fusion of colorful, modern and Gujarati fare, with bursts of orange, yellow, green, pink, copper and red present during the ceremony and reception, also showcased in the bride and groom’s lavish attire and eye-catching flowers.
Some standout moments from the wedding day included a reception-opening choreographed dance from the couple’s friends (put together remotely while dispersed across the country), Brennon’s brother, Ben, singing the mother/son dance song while Brennon and his mom danced together, and witnessing everyone on the dance floor grooving to the couple’s favorite songs and Bollywood music. “Introducing our family and friends to some staple Gujarati wedding songs was very entertaining,” Riddhi says.
Riddhi’s most memorable moment was during the welcome party called the Mosaalu, a tradition where the bride’s family presents her with gifts and clothes. “It was not planned on how this was going to happen,” Riddhi says of the welcome party. “But when it did, seeing my whole family parading toward us from the end of North Bank adorning us with all of our wedding clothes, flowers and blessings/chalo was a very powerful and emotional start to the weekend.”
Brennon says his most memorable moment of the day was during the reception, when his brother’s former band’s song, “Don’t Wanna Feel It,” came on. “Everyone singing, and knowing, all of the words to Ben’s song was a wonderful conclusion to the weekend,” Riddhi says.
The couple honeymooned in the Azores after the wedding.
